De jobbar p\u00e5 \u00f6ver hundra olika projekt med att ta fram material och konstruktioner f\u00f6r \u00f6ver 500 kunder \u00f6ver hela v\u00e4rlden\u201d, ber\u00e4ttar Dagher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kundernas behov omfattar allt fr\u00e5n byggarbeten som broar, energikonstruktioner som vindkraft och turbinsupport \u2013 med s\u00e4rskilt fokus p\u00e5 vindkraftsteknik offshore \u2013&nbsp;b\u00e5tkonstruktion och \u00e4ven till\u00e4mpningar som ska hj\u00e4lpa NASA att skicka m\u00e4nniskor till Mars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dTemat \u00e4r konstruktioner och material och hur vi kan anv\u00e4nda dem effektivt i alla dessa olika utrymmen\u201d, s\u00e4ger Dagher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Materialbyte<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Labbet samarbetar med kunder fr\u00e5n alla dessa olika branscher f\u00f6r att vara med och ta fram ny materialteknik. \u201dLabbet \u00e4r ISO 17025-certifierat\u201d, s\u00e4ger Dagher, \u201ds\u00e5 vi g\u00f6r \u00e4ven strukturella tester och materialtester f\u00f6r v\u00e5ra kunder. Allt vi g\u00f6r godk\u00e4nns vanligen automatiskt f\u00f6r anv\u00e4ndning i till\u00e4mpningar som skapar koder.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dagher ber\u00e4ttar att om det \u00e4nnu inte finns ett f\u00f6retag som anv\u00e4nder sig av ett nytt kompositmaterial som labbet utvecklar hittar hans team s\u00e4tt att f\u00e5 ut det p\u00e5 marknaden \u00e4nd\u00e5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dVi har utvecklat ett antal f\u00f6retag fr\u00e5n labbet\u201d, ber\u00e4ttar Dagher. \u201dEtt av v\u00e5ra uppdrag \u00e4r ekonomisk utveckling. S\u00e5 n\u00e4r vi utvecklar ny teknik licensierar vi antingen ett befintligt f\u00f6retag till att anv\u00e4nda tekniken eller drar ig\u00e5ng en ny verksamhet f\u00f6r att f\u00e5 ut den p\u00e5 marknaden. Om det finns en helt ny produktserie som inte passar in i n\u00e5gon annans verksamhet arbetar vi f\u00f6r att f\u00e5 ig\u00e5ng verksamheten fr\u00e5n grunden med investerare.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Den h\u00e4r m\u00e5ngsidiga kundbasen har f\u00e5tt University of Maine att utveckla ett h\u00e4pnadsv\u00e4ckande utbud av kompositmaterial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dKompositer kan utformas f\u00f6r slutanv\u00e4ndningstill\u00e4mpningar s\u00e5 att du kan skr\u00e4ddarsy materialet efter dina behov\u201d, ber\u00e4ttar Dagher. \u201dDet \u00e4r \u00e4ven f\u00f6rdelen med kompositmaterial \u2013 de \u00e4r designade material, kan man s\u00e4ga. Det kan vara biobaserade kompositmaterial, syntetiska hartser och fibrer eller biobaserade hartser och fibrer. Det kan vara kombinationer av dessa.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.bluebeam.com\/se\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/09\/U-Maine-Lab-Xing.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Det finns \u00e4ven m\u00e5nga f\u00f6rdelar med att anv\u00e4nda kompositbaserade material f\u00f6r en m\u00e4ngd olika till\u00e4mpningar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dDe \u00e4r oftast l\u00e4tta\u201d, s\u00e4ger Dagher. \u201dDe har mycket f\u00f6rdelaktig h\u00e5llfasthet i f\u00f6rh\u00e5llande till styvhet och vikt. D\u00e4rf\u00f6r kan man g\u00f6ra mycket l\u00e4tta konstruktioner j\u00e4mf\u00f6rt med vanliga byggnadsmaterial. Den andra f\u00f6rdelen \u00e4r att de vanligen \u00e4r mer h\u00e5llbara \u00e4n konventionella materialsystem. Man kan utforma dem s\u00e5 att de \u00f6verskrider den normala livscykeln f\u00f6r traditionella material.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Milj\u00f6v\u00e4nligt<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Ut\u00f6ver f\u00f6rdelarna vid de aktiva faserna av byggprocessen menar Dagher att anv\u00e4ndning av r\u00e4tt utformade kompositmaterial faktiskt kan f\u00f6r\u00e4ndra hela milj\u00f6bilden f\u00f6r ett visst projekt. De minskar aktivt livscykelkostnaderna och koldioxidutsl\u00e4ppen f\u00f6r ett visst system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dVi f\u00f6rs\u00f6ker hela tiden titta p\u00e5 saker fr\u00e5n b\u00f6rjan till slut\u201d, s\u00e4ger Dagher. \u201dAnv\u00e4ndningen av \u00e5tervinningsbara kompositmaterial \u00e4r en del av att g\u00e5 mot biobaserade material.\u201d Detta fokus p\u00e5 biomaterial ing\u00e5r i laboratoriets strategiska initiativ f\u00f6r gr\u00f6n energi och gr\u00f6na material, vilket \u00e4r ett 10-\u00e5rigt f\u00f6rs\u00f6k att lindra de milj\u00f6utmaningar som moderna byggmetoder medf\u00f6r.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dDet vi g\u00f6r h\u00e4r \u00e4r att utveckla system som minskar koldioxidutsl\u00e4ppen i byggbranschen och ger oss biobaserade material som kan \u00e5tervinnas till 100&nbsp;% n\u00e4r de \u00e4r uttj\u00e4nta\u201d, ber\u00e4ttar Dagher. Medan typiska plastmaterial \u00e4r petroleumbaserade har Dagher och hans team arbetat f\u00f6r att ta fram kompositer baserade p\u00e5 termoplast och biobaserade termoplaster, som \u00e4r biologiskt nedbrytbara och \u00e5tervinningsbara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fram\u00e5tstr\u00e4vande 3D<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Den 10 oktober 2019 presenterade laboratoriet sitt senaste projekt, GEM-initiativet, v\u00e4rldens st\u00f6rsta 3D-skrivare. Enligt labbet kommer 3D-skrivaren att anv\u00e4ndas f\u00f6r att skriva ut \u00e5tervinningsbara plastkompositer som kan anv\u00e4ndas p\u00e5 flera olika s\u00e4tt i byggprocessen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dEtt av exemplen skulle kunna vara en gjutform f\u00f6r betong\u201d, s\u00e4ger Dagher. \u201dAtt anv\u00e4nda skrivaren f\u00f6r att skapa mycket avancerade arkitekturformer som skulle vara mycket sv\u00e5ra att g\u00f6ra annars, att skapa en unik gjutform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>N\u00e4r gjutformen v\u00e4l har anv\u00e4nts tar vi tillbaka den\u201d, ber\u00e4ttar Dagher. \u201dVi slipar upp den och g\u00f6r om det.
