Sedan 1980-talet har det h\u00e4r f\u00e4ltet kallats f\u00f6r nanoteknik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Idag finns nanopartiklar i kosmetika, sportutrustning, elektronik, medicinteknik \u2013 och ja, i byggmaterial. Den anv\u00e4ndningen f\u00f6rv\u00e4ntas \u00f6ka. \u201d2025 r\u00e4knar man med att \u00f6ver 50&nbsp;% av allt byggnadsmaterial kommer att inneh\u00e5lla nanomaterial\u201d, s\u00e4ger Bill Looney, milj\u00f6ansvarig p\u00e5 den multinationella ingenj\u00f6rsfirman AECOM, i fastighets- och konstruktionshandboken&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aecom.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Blue-Book-2014.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2014 Blue Book<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Det l\u00e5ter lovande, men kan ocks\u00e5 ge upphov till en viss oro med tanke p\u00e5 att riskerna med nanomaterial f\u00f6r m\u00e4nniskor och milj\u00f6 \u00e4nnu inte \u00e4r helt kartlagda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>F\u00f6rdelarna \u00e4r desto tydligare. Som byggmaterial uppvisar nanomaterial n\u00e5gra v\u00e4rdefulla och f\u00f6rv\u00e5nande egenskaper. H\u00e4r \u00e4r n\u00e5gra exempel:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>L\u00e4ttare och mer motst\u00e5ndskraftig betong f\u00f6r v\u00e4gbygge<\/li><li>Milj\u00f6v\u00e4nlig m\u00e5larf\u00e4rg som renar luften genom att absorbera v\u00e4xthusgaser och producera syre<\/li><li>Sj\u00e4lvreng\u00f6rande glas som st\u00f6ter bort vatten och smuts<\/li><li>Tunnare, l\u00e4ttare och starkare isolering<\/li><li>Ytbel\u00e4ggningar som d\u00f6dar covid-19 \u2013 och andra virus \u2013 vid kontakt<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Om du vill ta en titt p\u00e5 n\u00e5gra av de senaste produkterna som har framst\u00e4llts med nanopartiklar kan du bes\u00f6ka&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/nano.elcosh.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Construction Nanomaterial Inventory<\/a>, som sammanst\u00e4lls av Center for Construction Research and Training (CPWR). CPWR har tagit fram den h\u00e4r katalogen f\u00f6r att hj\u00e4lpa byggarbetare och entrepren\u00f6rer att b\u00e4ttre f\u00f6rst\u00e5 b\u00e5de f\u00f6rdelar och risker med nanomaterial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Definition av nanomaterial<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Innan man anv\u00e4nder nanomaterial f\u00f6r att bygga \u00e4r det bra om entrepren\u00f6ren f\u00f6rst\u00e5r exakt vad materialet best\u00e5r av.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Den&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/environment\/chemicals\/nanotech\/faq\/definition_en.htm#:~:text=A%20natural%2C%20incidental%20or%20manufactured,range%201%20nm%20%2D%20100%20nm.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">definition som anv\u00e4nds inom EU<\/a> \u00e4r striktare \u00e4n den som anv\u00e4nds i USA, Japan eller Kina, s\u00e4ger Denis Koltsov, direkt\u00f6r och konsult f\u00f6r nanoteknik p\u00e5 BREC Solutions och ordf\u00f6rande f\u00f6r den kommitt\u00e9 som arbetar med standarden ISO\/TC229 f\u00f6r nanoteknik.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nano kan anv\u00e4ndas f\u00f6r att beskriva partiklar, tomrum, teknik eller andra faktorer, f\u00f6rklarar man i artikeln <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icevirtuallibrary.com\/doi\/full\/10.1680\/jcoma.16.00011\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nanomaterials in construction \u2013 what is being used, and where?<\/a>, som finansieras av Institution of Occupational Safety and Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I artikeln n\u00e4mner Wendy Jones fr\u00e5n Loughborough University i England och hennes medf\u00f6rfattare flera m\u00f6jligheter:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Material som inneh\u00e5ller partiklar som \u00e4r 1\u2013100 nanometer stora (en nanometer motsvarar en miljarddels meter)<\/li><li>Material som inneh\u00e5ller tomrum i nanostorlek och en enorm intern ytarea, till exempel isoleringsmaterial av kiselbaserad aerogel<\/li><li>Material som skapas avsiktligt med hj\u00e4lp av nanoteknik \u2013 s\u00e5 kallade tillverkade nanomaterial (ENM) \u2013 snarare \u00e4n s\u00e5dana som uppst\u00e5r naturligt, som finkornig strandsand eller virus<\/li><li>Material som \u00e4r sammanfogade, vilket \u00f6ppnar f\u00f6r fr\u00e5gor om hur stor andel av partiklarna som m\u00e5ste vara i nanoformat<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>F\u00f6r att man ska kunna reglera anv\u00e4ndningen av nanomaterial i byggbranschen och f\u00f6rst\u00e5 informationen fr\u00e5n tillverkaren m\u00e5ste man naturligtvis vara \u00f6verens om hur de ska definieras. Ofta kr\u00e4vs dock ingen m\u00e4rkning, och tillverkaren kanske inte anger nanomaterial i produktinformationen eller s\u00e4kerhetsdatabladet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mindre, men mer bioreaktivt<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Att nanomaterialen \u00e4r s\u00e5 sm\u00e5 \u00e4r just det som m\u00f6jligg\u00f6r deras f\u00f6rdelar \u2013 men ocks\u00e5 deras faror. I j\u00e4mf\u00f6relse med st\u00f6rre partiklar av samma material har nanopartiklarna st\u00f6rre ytarea per massenhet, vilket g\u00f6r dem mycket mer reaktiva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>M\u00e5nga tillverkade nanomaterial kan till exempel inhaleras i lungorna eller absorberas genom huden. National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health har tagit fram&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.osha.gov\/Publications\/OSHA_FS-3634.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rekommenderade gr\u00e4nsv\u00e4rden f\u00f6r exponering<\/a>&nbsp;f\u00f6r kolnanor\u00f6r (CNT) och ultrafin titandioxid. Precis som asbest har CNT kopplats till inflammation och \u00e4rrbildning i lungorna. Titandioxid kan ge lungskador genom inandning, men kan ocks\u00e5 ta sig igenom blod-hj\u00e4rnbarri\u00e4ren. Effekterna av det \u00e4r \u00e4nnu ok\u00e4nda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Inneboende eller tillverkat skydd<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Kroppen har naturliga f\u00f6rsvarsmekanismer f\u00f6r att skydda sig mot fr\u00e4mmande partiklar. Hur v\u00e4l dessa fungerar beror dock p\u00e5 partikeln i sig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dI lungorna finns makrofager eller celler som normalt avl\u00e4gsnar fr\u00e4mmande \u00e4mnen\u201d, s\u00e4ger Wendy Jones. \u201dDe kan sluta sig kring mycket sm\u00e5 eller korta partiklar, eller s\u00e5dana som \u00e4r ihoptrasslade till en boll, och f\u00f6ra bort dem. Men l\u00e4ngre fibrer kan makrofagerna inte helt omsluta. S\u00e5dana fibrer kan d\u00e4rf\u00f6r inte komma ut igen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fr\u00e5gan \u00e4r inte om ett nanomaterial inneh\u00e5ller fibrer eller inte, utan vilken form och storlek fibrerna har. Det skulle kunna vara m\u00f6jligt att minska de potentiella riskerna med nanomaterial som CNT. Tillverkaren kan till exempel anv\u00e4nda bel\u00e4ggningar eller andra bearbetningsmetoder, eller byta ut fibr\u00f6sa material mot kortare eller mer kulliknande former. Det v\u00e4sentliga \u00e4r att man inte g\u00e5r miste om de \u00f6nskv\u00e4rda egenskaperna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dF\u00f6r varje nanomaterial kan en annorlunda utformning ocks\u00e5 inneb\u00e4ra att \u00e4mnet beter sig annorlunda\u201d, s\u00e4ger Wendy. \u201dI teorin skulle man kunna omforma dem s\u00e5 att de blir mindre av ett problem.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">S\u00e4rskilda risker i byggbranschen<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dMan skulle kunna anv\u00e4nda CNT i skaftet till ett tennisracket, d\u00e4r det beh\u00e5ller sin fasta form och aldrig blir till ett problem\u201d, s\u00e4ger Wendy Jones. \u201dMen det s\u00e4ger ingenting om vilka problem som skulle kunna uppst\u00e5 om man blandar ner det i betong, l\u00e5ter det vara i 20 \u00e5r och sedan bryter s\u00f6nder det.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c4nnu mer f\u00f6rbryllande \u00e4r att \u00e4ven om man inte tills\u00e4tter nanomaterial till betongen s\u00e5 kan det h\u00e4nda att betongen \u00e4nd\u00e5 sl\u00e4pper ut dem n\u00e4r den f\u00f6rst\u00f6rs. Faktum \u00e4r att n\u00e4r man sk\u00e4r, slipar eller sprutar betong uppst\u00e5r damm eller dimma som kan andas in, sv\u00e4ljas eller absorberas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>F\u00f6r att utv\u00e4rdera riskerna m\u00e5ste man fastst\u00e4lla arbetarens exponering och dos, men s\u00e5dana utredningar kan vara komplicerade. Generellt \u00e4r det partiklar som uts\u00f6ndras genom aerosoler och pulver som utg\u00f6r den st\u00f6rsta faran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Byggnadsarbetarens exponering \u00e4r troligen \u00e4nd\u00e5 relativt l\u00e5g, menar Wendy Jones, i synnerhet om man vidtar skydds\u00e5tg\u00e4rder. N\u00e4r man ska hantera pulver och aerosoler, till exempel, s\u00e5 betyder det vattend\u00e4mpning, dammutsugning vid k\u00e4llan och anv\u00e4ndning av munskydd av typen N95 (FFP3 i EU eller KN95-filter i Kina).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fr\u00e5gor och svar<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cpwr.com\/research\/research-to-practice-r2p\/r2p-library\/toolbox-talks\/\" target=\"_blank\">CPWR:s Toolbox Talks om nanotekniska material<\/a>&nbsp;tar upp exponeringsskydd och annat matnyttigt som grundl\u00e4ggande principer, identifiering, nanoteknisk cement med titan samt medel f\u00f6r bestrykning och betsning av tr\u00e4.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/niosh\/docs\/2018-103\/default.html\" target=\"_blank\">NIOSH har ocks\u00e5 gjort en plansch<\/a> som hj\u00e4lp f\u00f6r de som arbetar med nanomaterial i byggbranschen med information om hur man undviker exponering. P\u00e5 planschen finns tre olika kategorier av tillverkade nanomaterial, ordnade efter exponeringspotential: torrpulver har h\u00f6gst potential, d\u00e4refter v\u00e4tskesuspension och till sist fysiskt bundna eller inkapslade nanopartiklar. Planschen inneh\u00e5ller ocks\u00e5 fr\u00e5gor att st\u00e4lla liksom \u00e5tg\u00e4rder f\u00f6r kontroll och skydd som b\u00f6r vidtas f\u00f6r respektive nanomaterial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Om ett nytt material erbjuder f\u00f6rdelar som inneb\u00e4r ett anm\u00e4rkningsv\u00e4rt skutt fram\u00e5t kan det vara id\u00e9 f\u00f6r entrepren\u00f6ren att fr\u00e5ga leverant\u00f6ren om det inneh\u00e5ller nanomaterial. Om det g\u00f6r det b\u00f6r man fr\u00e5ga om kemisk sammans\u00e4ttning, storlek, form, elektrisk laddning, l\u00f6slighet och struktur. M\u00f6jligheterna \u00e4r i stort sett obegr\u00e4nsade, men det \u00e4r bara vissa av egenskaperna som \u00e4r kopplade till h\u00e4lsoproblem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ofta \u00e4r det b\u00e4sta r\u00e5det n\u00e4r det g\u00e4ller att bed\u00f6ma och bem\u00f6ta risker en gammal sanning: ta det s\u00e4kra f\u00f6re det os\u00e4kra. Oavsett hur liten risken \u00e4r, eller hur osannolikt det \u00e4r att n\u00e5gonting skulle g\u00e5 fel, l\u00f6nar det sig alltid att skydda sig sj\u00e4lv och sina medarbetare mot
