Som ton\u00e5ring var han \u201dv\u00e4ldigt intresserad av magisk realism\u201d och tyckte att \u201dGabriel Garc\u00eda M\u00e1rquez, Salman Rushdie och den typen av m\u00e4nniskor var mycket inspirerande\u201d. Det var inte f\u00f6rr\u00e4n ganska sent p\u00e5 gymnasiet som han uppt\u00e4ckte att han ocks\u00e5 tyckte om kemi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dKemi \u00e4r i h\u00f6g grad inriktat p\u00e5 objektivitet. Det bygger p\u00e5 symmetri\u201d, s\u00e4ger Sarbajit. \u201dDet \u00e4r de aspekterna som jag gillar b\u00e4st med kemi \u2013 och de \u00e5terspeglas ju ocks\u00e5 i arkitekturen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Built ber\u00e4ttade om laboratoriet vid Texas A&amp;M University i <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.bluebeam.com\/se\/3d-printing-local-soil-student\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">del 1<\/a> av den h\u00e4r serien i tv\u00e5 delar. D\u00e4r h\u00e5ller Sarbajit och hans tv\u00e4rvetenskapliga team p\u00e5 med att utforska \u201dsk\u00e4rningspunkten mellan materialkemi, byggvetenskap och ingenj\u00f6rskonst\u201d. Teamet hittar \u201dstora m\u00f6jligheter f\u00f6r nya material som kan ge byggnader nya funktioner.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Soltorkat tegel i modern tappning <\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>En h\u00f6gprioriterad fr\u00e5ga f\u00f6r laboratoriet \u00e4r att hitta ett alternativ till betong som kan tillverkas och kasseras, eller \u00e5tervinnas p\u00e5 ett mer h\u00e5llbart s\u00e4tt. \u201dOm betong vore ett land, s\u00e5 skulle det finnas med bland de fem st\u00f6rsta utsl\u00e4ppsk\u00e4llorna av koldioxid i v\u00e4rlden\u201d, s\u00e4ger Sarbajit. Plus m\u00f6jligheten att skriva ut det i 3D.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Den additiva tillverkningskomponenten i den h\u00e4r l\u00f6sningen inneb\u00e4r dock en del utmaningar. \u201dN\u00e4r man skriver ut materialet vill man kunna komma tillbaka och g\u00f6ra ett lager till\u201d, s\u00e4ger Sarbajit. \u201dMaterialet m\u00e5ste klara att h\u00e5lla sin form medan man l\u00e4gger p\u00e5 n\u00e4sta skikt. D\u00e4rf\u00f6r m\u00e5ste man komma fram till material som h\u00e4rdas och blir fasta. Inte s\u00e5 mycket att det t\u00e4pper till munstycket, men s\u00e5pass snabbt att det g\u00e5r att l\u00e4gga p\u00e5 n\u00e4sta skikt och forts\u00e4tta bygga.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Lera som uppfyller reglerna<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Med additiv tillverkning f\u00f6ljer ocks\u00e5 nya krav p\u00e5 regelefterlevnad, testning, kvalitetskontroll och repeterbarhet. \u201dDet \u00e4r relativt enkelt att g\u00f6ra saker som bara \u00e4r arkitektoniska, och inte strukturella\u201d, s\u00e4ger Sarbajit. \u201dEn b\u00e5ge, en fasad eller en spiselkrans. Det blir mycket sv\u00e5rare n\u00e4r det g\u00e4ller balkar och s\u00e5dant, s\u00e4rskilt ju st\u00f6rre byggnaden \u00e4r. D\u00e5 handlar det inte bara om en teknisk utmaning. Det blir ocks\u00e5 en utmaning att f\u00f6lja reglerna.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Den h\u00e4r forskningen har potential att kunna anv\u00e4ndas p\u00e5 vitt skilda platser, fr\u00e5n m\u00e5nen till Qatar \u2013 platser d\u00e4r det finns intresse f\u00f6r att ta reda p\u00e5 om det \u00e4r m\u00f6jligt att bygga med sand. \u201dVi f\u00f6rs\u00f6ker se hur l\u00e5ngt vi kan dra det h\u00e4r\u201d, s\u00e4ger Sarbajit. \u201dP\u00e5 det hela taget, om det finns lerpartiklar, om det finns mineraler \u2013 d\u00e5 kan vi komma p\u00e5 n\u00e5gon form av sammans\u00e4ttning som g\u00f6r att vi kan tv\u00e4rbinda dem och h\u00e5lla ihop dem. Jag kan \u00e4nnu inte svara p\u00e5 om vi kan bygga i alla milj\u00f6er. Men f\u00f6rhoppningsvis f\u00e5r vi tillg\u00e5ng till en upps\u00e4ttning verktyg f\u00f6r att b\u00f6rja f\u00f6rst\u00e5 vad som beh\u00f6ver g\u00f6ras i olika typer av milj\u00f6er.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>B\u00e4ttre rustade mot klimatf\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Teamet funderar ocks\u00e5 p\u00e5 om den h\u00e4r nya metoden f\u00f6r att skapa byggmaterial skulle kunna bidra till att byggnader st\u00e5r emot klimatf\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar b\u00e4ttre.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Medlemmarna i Sarbajits team bor i Texas och har d\u00e4rf\u00f6r stor erfarenhet av orkaner, och \u00e4r v\u00e4l medvetna om hur snabbt en gipsskiva b\u00f6rjar m\u00f6gla efter en \u00f6versv\u00e4mning. F\u00f6r att l\u00f6sa det blickar teamet \u00e5terigen b\u00e5de mot framtiden och det f\u00f6rflutna, den h\u00e4r g\u00e5ngen mot det antika Rom. D\u00e4r var det vanligt att konstruera vattenbest\u00e4ndiga byggnader av kalksten. Med det i \u00e5tanke funderar Sarbajit p\u00e5 hur kalkelement skulle kunna integreras i kompositmaterial. \u201dDet kommer att kr\u00e4va ett helt nytt t\u00e4nkes\u00e4tt, som fokuserar p\u00e5 motst\u00e5ndskraft\u201d, s\u00e4ger han. \u201dOch det \u00e4r n\u00e5got som vi \u00e4r mycket intresserade av.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sarbajit Banerjee f\u00f6rest\u00e4ller sig att de h\u00e4r resultaten kan komma ut p\u00e5 marknaden om bara fem-tio \u00e5r. Han s\u00e4ger att vissa f\u00f6retag redan har uttryckt sitt intresse f\u00f6r att anv\u00e4nda de material som hans team utvecklar.
