Fr\u00e5n det neolitiska Europas l\u00e5nggravar till inkafolkets terrassodlingar i Amerika finns det jordkonstruktioner som st\u00e5r kvar l\u00e5ngt efter att de samh\u00e4llen som skapade dem har g\u00e5tt till historien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nu vill en professor fr\u00e5n University of Virginia lyfta in den h\u00e4r ur\u00e5ldriga byggnadstekniken i modern tid genom att anv\u00e4nda experimentella metoder f\u00f6r 3D-utskrift. Med dessa metoder har det skapats ett helt nytt s\u00e4tt att bygga levande v\u00e4ggar, det vill s\u00e4ga byggnader som \u00e4r t\u00e4ckta med v\u00e4xter f\u00f6r att uppn\u00e5 s\u00e5v\u00e4l funktionella som estetiska m\u00e5l.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vi har pratat med professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arch.virginia.edu\/people\/ehsan-baharlou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ehsan Baharlou<\/a>, som \u00e4r en av projektets huvudforskare, om den sp\u00e4nnande milj\u00f6m\u00e4ssiga och kreativa potentialen hos den h\u00e4r gamla byggmetoden \u2013 och hur terrassering faktiskt skulle kunna g\u00f6ra en f\u00f6rv\u00e5nande comeback i design- och byggbranschen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>En samarbetsprocess<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Ehsan Baharlou ber\u00e4ttar att id\u00e9n till att prova terrassering i ny utformning f\u00f6ddes genom samtal med kollegor vid olika institutioner p\u00e5 University of Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Han s\u00e4ger att en del av inspirationen till projektet kom fr\u00e5n gruppens gemensamma fascination f\u00f6r terrasseringens historia och vad de s\u00e5g som dess outnyttjade potential f\u00f6r helt nya former tack vare modern teknologi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dTerrassering har f\u00f6rekommit i tusentals \u00e5r\u201d, s\u00e4ger Ehsan, \u201dmen tack vare de stora framstegen inom 3D-utskrifter har vi uppt\u00e4ckt hur enkelt det \u00e4r att skriva ut med de h\u00e4r materialen. V\u00e5r strategi var att f\u00f6rs\u00f6ka implementera nya funktioner i den h\u00e4r typen av utskriftssystem. Vi ville anv\u00e4nda ett material med ett litet koldioxidavtryck och dessutom l\u00e4gga till en metod som gjorde att vi genom att ge v\u00e4ggsystemet en extra funktion faktiskt kunde absorbera koldioxid ur atmosf\u00e4ren.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Den metod som Ehsan Baharlou och hans team till sist valde inneb\u00e4r att man l\u00e5ter fr\u00f6n gro inuti materialet i de utskrivna v\u00e4ggarna. \u201dV\u00e5r id\u00e9 var att skapa ett enda material som kunde st\u00f6dja processen med groning och blomning\u201d, s\u00e4ger han, \u201dgenom en milj\u00f6 med r\u00e4tt fukthalt och temperatur. N\u00e4r fr\u00f6na gror sl\u00e5r de rot och suger upp n\u00e4ring ur jorden \u2013 vilket inneb\u00e4r att de binder koldioxid ur atmosf\u00e4ren.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Teknologiska framsteg och milj\u00f6vinster<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>En av de mest intressanta aspekterna av att l\u00e4gga till groende fr\u00f6n p\u00e5 en 3D-utskriven jordv\u00e4gg var tanken att man skulle kunna f\u00e5 en byggteknik som redan var relativt milj\u00f6v\u00e4nlig att bli \u00e4nnu mer koldioxidsn\u00e5l.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dN\u00e4r vi anv\u00e4nder lokala material s\u00e5 som vi g\u00f6r n\u00e4r vi skapar jordv\u00e4ggar kan vi undvika koldioxideffekterna av transporter, bearbetning och m\u00e5nga andra steg som ing\u00e5r i konventionellt byggande och som orsakar de st\u00f6rsta koldioxidutsl\u00e4ppen\u201d, s\u00e4ger Ehsan. \u201dV\u00e5r id\u00e9 var att utveckla en process d\u00e4r man anv\u00e4nder lokal jord fr\u00e5n Virginia. Vi utf\u00f6rde en serie tester av jordens kvalitet innan vi tog fram v\u00e5ra biobaserade tillsatser och f\u00f6rberedde jorden f\u00f6r att vara utskrivbar. F\u00f6rutom jordens goda egenskaper som byggmaterial slogs Ehsan ocks\u00e5 av den r\u00f6da lerans estetiska m\u00f6jligheter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>N\u00e4r materialet var framtaget beh\u00f6vde Ehsan och hans team komma fram till det b\u00e4sta s\u00e4ttet att bygga med det. \u201dVi best\u00e4mde oss f\u00f6r en metod med robotutskrift eftersom det gav oss extra stor kontroll \u00f6ver utskriftsprocessens precision och kvalitet\u201d, s\u00e4ger han. \u201dId\u00e9n var fr\u00e5n b\u00f6rjan att utnyttja konceptet att arkitektur \u00e4r en till\u00e4mpad vetenskap. Vi b\u00f6rjade med sm\u00e5 utskrifter och skalade sedan upp f\u00f6r att skapa st\u00f6rre och st\u00f6rre byggnader.\u201d N\u00e4sta projekt p\u00e5 teamets lista \u00e4r att g\u00f6ra utskrifter p\u00e5 plats f\u00f6r att \u00e5terskapa University of Virginias ikoniska serpentinv\u00e4ggar, och m\u00e5nga fler byggnader i framtiden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>F\u00f6r de flesta 3D-utskrivna byggnader anv\u00e4nder man robotar till att blanda och skriva ut, men Ehsan och hans kollegor gav sin utrustning ytterligare en uppgift: att s\u00e5 fr\u00f6n. \u201dVi skriver ut jord, blandar jorden, blandar i fr\u00f6na och b\u00f6rjar sedan om processen fr\u00e5n b\u00f6rjan igen\u201d, s\u00e4ger han. \u201dVi kan tr\u00e4na roboten att styra vilken sida av v\u00e4ggen som ska gro och vilken som \u00e4r insidan, utan groning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vid varje steg i uppt\u00e4cktsprocessen s\u00e5g Ehsan och hans kollegor till att id\u00e9n om milj\u00f6v\u00e4nligt byggande stod i centrum. \u201dVi ville skapa ett system som b\u00e5de kunde bli en del av en enkel byggprocess f\u00f6r att snabbt svara p\u00e5 behovet av bost\u00e4der och en del av \u00e5tervinningskedjan och till och med \u00e5teranv\u00e4ndning under material- och tillverkningsprocessen\u201d, s\u00e4ger han.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ur\u00e5ldrig teknik m\u00f6ter modern teknologi<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Precis som folket i Anderna odlade gr\u00e4s p\u00e5 sina st\u00e4pper f\u00f6r att g\u00f6ra den l\u00f6sa bergsjorden stabilare, ber\u00e4ttar Ehsan att fr\u00f6n som skrivs in i v\u00e4ggarnas konstruktion \u00f6kar deras h\u00e5llfasthet och stabilitet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dN\u00e4r man tittar p\u00e5 hur landskapsarkitektur traditionellt har anv\u00e4nts valde man ofta ut v\u00e4xter som var s\u00e4rskilt bra p\u00e5 att f\u00f6rhindra erosion\u201d, s\u00e4ger Ehsan. \u201dV\u00e5r id\u00e9 var att vi ocks\u00e5 skulle anv\u00e4nda plantering f\u00f6r att undvika erosion och \u00f6ka stabiliteten hos de h\u00e4r 3D-utskrivna jordv\u00e4ggarna, som blir allt vanligare.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ehsan och hans kollegor hoppades att de genom att p\u00e5 ett kreativt s\u00e4tt anv\u00e4nda v\u00e4xter som vitkl\u00f6ver och andra t\u00e5liga \u201dmikroblad\u201d skulle kunna bidra till ett minskat behov av kemiska tillsatser i 3D-utskrivna byggnader och ers\u00e4tta dem med ett milj\u00f6v\u00e4nligare biobaserat material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dInom betongutskrifter anv\u00e4nder man olika recept som man reproducerar om och om igen f\u00f6r att bygga anl\u00e4ggningar i olika samh\u00e4llen\u201d, s\u00e4ger Ehsan. \u201dV\u00e5r f\u00f6rhoppning var att utveckla v\u00e5rt eget recept d\u00e4r man kunde anv\u00e4nda en biobaserad materialtillsats f\u00f6r att \u00f6ka stabiliteten och bidra till att skapa byggnader som h\u00e5ller l\u00e4nge.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ehsan s\u00e4ger att teamet beh\u00f6vde anv\u00e4nda avancerade materialvetenskapliga tekniker f\u00f6r att skapa de h\u00e4r levande byggnaderna. \u201dDet var en utmaning att jobba med s\u00e5 m\u00e5nga olika skikt som inte var fasta, och h\u00e5lla koll p\u00e5 h\u00e4rdningstiden\u201d, s\u00e4ger han. \u201dVi var tvungna att se till att jorden hade r\u00e4tt vattenhalt f\u00f6r att uppmuntra groning, samtidigt som vi fick materialet att stelna.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ehsan ber\u00e4ttar ocks\u00e5 att teamet st\u00f6tte p\u00e5 samma begr\u00e4nsningar som g\u00e4ller f\u00f6r den befintliga 3D-utskriftsteknologin. \u201dGeometriskt sett finns det en gr\u00e4ns f\u00f6r hur mycket vi kan leka med utrymmet\u201d, s\u00e4ger han. \u201dVi valde att leka med tekniken genom att skapa texturer och m\u00f6nster, samtidigt som vi h\u00f6ll koll p\u00e5 fuktniv\u00e5erna inom de utskrivna v\u00e4ggarna.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Designprocessen inspirerades av den jordbaserade arkitekturens l\u00e5nga historia, som man utgick ifr\u00e5n medan man blandade \u00e4ldre designer med den banbrytande teknologin. \u201dKopplingen mellan jord och arkitektur \u00e4r ingenting nytt\u201d, s\u00e4ger Ehsan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div
