Arup Goes Digital for Design Review

Creating Worldwide Efficiency By Using Revu for Reviews

Arup Group, Ltd. is comprised of more than 14,000 specialists, working across 90+ disciplines in more than 34 countries. In the global territory “Australasia,” Arup features a diverse team of CAD technicians and modelers across 12 offices, who serve projects all around Australia and New Zealand, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. In seeking to ensure quality deliverables to their clients, Arup found issues in the quality and accuracy of as-built drawings and the consistency of manual document markups for design review. The lack of standard markups within manual review processes kept stakeholders focused on document management as opposed to the more productive and profitable activity-based working ideal. Review timeframes were also bloated, due to the reliance on email for the heavy project collaboration, as some projects involved stakeholders working in remote offices across the globe. The degree of communication needed to avoid creating mistakes is paramount on any project, let alone those that are of that larger scale and scope.

Being frustrated by the lack of quality and consistency in both the markups and drawings themselves was enough to push Arup to implement Bluebeam Revu, the project efficiency and collaboration solution trusted by more than 1.3 million AEC professionals worldwide, delivering enhanced PDF-based takeoff and workflow automation tools that span the entire project lifecycle.

“Revu has significantly reduced the amount of time I spend checking and manually reviewing each page,” lauds Senior Technician Ben Taylor. “We did do the numbers in the early days which showed [Revu] paid for itself in a couple of months; it also made my life incredibly easy in terms of how I produce and edit the PDFs that I need to work with.”

The industry specific tools within Bluebeam Revu and Studio have allowed Arup to cut design review times by as much as 60%.
